CONFERENCE CALLS FOR NATIONAL ACTION

The Hunter Valley Protection Alliance held a joint strategy forum with a coalition of community action groups from Queensland, NSW and Victoria to discuss the issue of the escalation of destructive coal mining and coal seam gas operations throughout Australia.

John Thomson, Executive Officer of Hunter Valley Protection Alliance, writes in his post-meeting report ' “Welcome to the emergence of a national alliance of communities concerned about the rapacious, unfettered and government-sanctioned growth of the coal mining, coal seam gas mining and related industries". Mr. Thompson goes on to state, 'Our discussions highlighted our collective agreement on the unfortunate realities that our governments have failed us, the citizens of Australia, in their job to protect our rights, our land, our environment, our health and our lifestyles' (Thomson, 2010, HVPA).

AADAM is very pleased to be a part of this National Alliance which will take our concerns to a National level and looks forward to working closely with all of these communities.
