AADAM MEMBERS ---2011 NEWSLETTER #1

Well we are back with our next meeting to be held on Wed. the 23rd FEB at 6:30 at the Aldershot community hall.

Our guest speaker will be the President of the Greater Mary Association Ms. Tanzi Smith and this organisation is taking a greater interest in the mine and it potential to damage the Mary and Susan river systems.

With the flooding of mines throughout Qld. there were up to 80% of the open cut operations which were flooded and un operational and DERM have been forced to issue special permits to discharge waste water to the river systems to allow the royalty cash flow to the Govt. to recommence.

The justification for this is that there is sufficient water flow to “Dilute” the coal particles however this is false on two accounts:

1/ Coal dust is not soluble and will not dissolve in water.

2/ The pumping is continuing even though the river levels have fallen back to normal levels and flow rates.

There is to be a screening of a film which tells the story of Coal Seam Gas debacle and although this is not a direct threat to us at present we believe it is worth attending as the procedures to stop this mining are similar to our own.

“GASLAND” screening at the Brolga theatre 15th March with entry fee $5- (time to be advised). This is an Oscar nominated film.

Also worth a look 4 Corners at 8:30 Monday 21st. Feb. discusses the impacts of Coal Seam Gas.

HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT THE MEETING –REGARDS BRIAN LINFORTH

PS. DERM local mgr. Mr. Tim Brain and his assistant have agreed  to be our guest speakers at our March meeting.
